Because Jesus Lives

Because Jesus Lives

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” — John 11:25

Background and Context

These powerful words were spoken during one of the darkest moments in the life of Martha. Her brother Lazarus had died. Grief had filled the home. Tears flowed freely. Hope seemed buried with the stone that covered the tomb.

Yet Jesus arrived with a message greater than death itself.

He did not simply say, “I can resurrect.” He declared, “I AM the resurrection and the life.”

This statement reaches beyond the tomb of Lazarus. It echoes through every cemetery, every hospital room, every broken heart, every fearful mind, and every generation.

Because Jesus lives, despair never gets the final word.

Understanding the Passage

The resurrection of Christ is not merely a historical event to celebrate once a year. It is the foundation upon which the Christian life stands.

Because Jesus lives:

  • Sin no longer has absolute dominion.
  • Death is no longer the final destination.
  • Failure is not the end of your story.
  • The future is filled with hope.
  • Eternal life becomes a present reality.

The empty tomb changed everything.

When the stone rolled away, fear lost its throne.

The resurrection is God's declaration that darkness cannot permanently hold what God intends to raise.

Jesus conquered what humanity could never conquer alone.

He entered death and walked out victorious.

Because Jesus Lives, We Can Face Tomorrow

Life often feels uncertain.

Bills accumulate.

Relationships fracture.

Disease strikes unexpectedly.

Society grows increasingly unstable.

People live surrounded by anxiety about the future.

Yet believers possess something stronger than circumstances.

We possess a living Savior.

You may not know what tomorrow holds.

But because Jesus lives, you know who holds tomorrow.

The disciples themselves illustrate this truth.

Before the resurrection:

  • They hid behind locked doors.
  • They were fearful.
  • They doubted.
  • They scattered.

After encountering the risen Christ:

  • Fear transformed into boldness.
  • Cowards became witnesses.
  • Ordinary people changed the world.

What changed?

They discovered that Jesus was truly alive.

Biblical Examples That Reinforce This Truth

Mary Magdalene

She came to the tomb weeping.

She left proclaiming good news.

Her sorrow turned to joy because Jesus was alive.

Peter

He denied Christ three times.

Failure could have defined him forever.

Yet the risen Jesus restored him.

Because Jesus lives, failure never has to become final.

The Two Disciples on the Road to Emmaus

They walked discouraged and confused.

But when they recognized the risen Christ, their hearts burned within them.

What despair destroys, Christ restores.

Paul

A persecutor became a preacher.

A destroyer became a disciple.

Why?

Because he encountered the living Christ.

Practical Lessons for Everyday Christian Living

1. Live With Hope, Not Fear

Fear grows when we forget who reigns.

The resurrection reminds us that God specializes in impossible situations.

2. Stop Living Like the Tomb Is Still Full

Many believers live defeated lives while serving a risen Savior.

Do not remain imprisoned by guilt Christ already conquered.

3. Walk in Resurrection Power Daily

The same power that raised Christ enables believers to endure trials, overcome temptation, forgive others, and remain faithful.

4. Let Your Life Testify That Jesus Lives

The world may never read Scripture.

But it watches believers.

Your kindness.

Your faithfulness.

Your endurance.

Your worship during hardship.

These become living evidence that Christ is alive.

Strong Spiritual Applications for Modern Life

Modern society offers endless substitutes for hope:

Money.

Success.

Politics.

Technology.

Entertainment.

Yet none can answer humanity's deepest problems.

Only a living Savior can.

When depression whispers that nothing will improve—

Because Jesus lives.

When grief says the pain will consume you—

Because Jesus lives.

When temptation says change is impossible—

Because Jesus lives.

When death itself approaches—

Because Jesus lives.

The resurrection is not merely theology.

It is survival.

It is power.

It is hope.

A Call to Deeper Faithfulness

Perhaps you believe Jesus lives intellectually, but have stopped living as though He lives practically.

You pray less.

You worry more.

You trust less.

You compromise easier.

You have allowed circumstances to speak louder than resurrection truth.

Today, Christ still asks:

"Do you believe this?"

Not merely:

Do you believe there was a resurrection?

But:

Do you believe the risen Christ can transform your present reality?

The empty tomb demands a response.

Because if Jesus lives—

Everything changes.

Closing Appeal

The stone has already been rolled away.

Death has already been defeated.

Victory has already been secured.

So stop standing outside the tomb of fear.

Stop living among yesterday's failures.

Stop treating resurrection power as merely a doctrine.

Lift your eyes.

The Savior who conquered death still calls His people to trust Him.

Because Jesus lives—

You can rise again.

Because Jesus lives—

Hope still breathes.

Because Jesus lives—

Your story is not finished.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus Christ, who conquered death and rose victorious. Thank You that because He lives, we have hope beyond our failures, peace beyond our fears, and life beyond the grave.

Forgive us for the times we have lived as though the tomb were still sealed. Strengthen our faith to trust You when circumstances appear impossible.

Fill our hearts with resurrection power. Help us to walk boldly, love deeply, serve faithfully, and endure patiently.

Remind us daily that our Savior is alive.

May our lives become living testimonies that Jesus reigns.

And when fear rises, teach us to declare with confidence:

“Because Jesus lives, I can face tomorrow.”

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
