Rooted in Trust
Scripture Focus
Jeremiah 17:5–8 (KJV)
“Cursed be the man that trusteth in man…
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters…”
Reflection
This passage paints two powerful pictures—a dry shrub in the desert and a flourishing tree by the waters. These are not just images of nature; they are portraits of the human heart.
The one who trusts in human strength alone is like a shrub struggling in a barren land—isolated, dry, and fruitless. When trials come, there is no deep source to sustain life. Confidence rooted only in self or others will eventually fail.
But the one who trusts in the Lord is compared to a tree planted by the waters. Notice something important:
- The tree does not depend on the weather.
- It is not shaken by heat.
- It does not fear drought.
Why? Because its roots go deep into a constant, life-giving source.
So it is with the believer. When our trust is firmly placed in God, we are sustained not by circumstances, but by His unchanging presence. Even in seasons of difficulty, we remain spiritually alive, fruitful, and strong.
Spiritual Insight
Trust is not just a feeling—it is a decision of where to root your life.
- To trust in man is to live from the surface
- To trust in God is to live from the source
God invites us this Sabbath to examine where our roots are anchored. Are we drawing from the shifting sands of human strength, or from the deep, flowing waters of divine grace?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Teach me to trust not in human strength, but in You alone. Plant my life by the rivers of Your grace, that I may not fear when trials come. Let my roots grow deep in Your Word, and may my life bear fruit that honors You. Keep me steady, faithful, and full of hope.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Sabbath Thought
“A life rooted in God will remain green—even in a dry season.”
If you’d like, I can also turn this into a short sermon or a shareable church handout.
