If He Heard the Demons, What About His Children?

If He Heard the Demons, What About His Children?

Scripture Focus: “So the demons begged Him, saying, ‘If You cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.’ And He said to them, ‘Go.’” — Matthew 8:31–32

There is something deeply arresting in this passage. The demons—rebellious, fallen beings opposed to God—make a request of Christ… and He grants it. Not out of favor, not out of love, but within His sovereign authority, He permits their request.

Pause and consider that.

If Christ, in His authority, responded even to the request of demons, what then will He not do for His own children—those redeemed by His blood, those who call Him Father?

This truth should shake our doubts and awaken our faith.

Too often, we approach God hesitantly, as though He is reluctant to hear us. We pray weak prayers, filled with uncertainty, wondering if He truly cares, if He will respond, if He is listening at all. Yet Scripture paints a vastly different picture. The same Christ who allowed demons to act within limits is the same Savior who invites His children to ask, seek, and knock.

The difference is profound.

The demons begged out of fear. We pray out of relationship.

The demons received permission. We receive promises.

The demons were granted a temporary allowance. We are offered eternal inheritance.

If Christ acknowledged even the voice of darkness, how much more does He attend to the cries of those who belong to Him?

This is not a call to treat God casually or presumptuously. He is still holy, still sovereign, still perfect in wisdom. Not every request is granted in the way we expect—but every prayer of His children is heard, weighed, and answered according to His perfect will.

So why do we hesitate?

Why do we carry burdens we were meant to surrender?

Why do we live as spiritual paupers when we have access to divine riches?

Let this truth settle deep into your heart: You are not an outsider begging for scraps—you are a child invited to the table.

If Jesus responded even within judgment to demons, how much more will He respond in love to you?

Bring Him your needs. Bring Him your fears. Bring Him your brokenness. Bring Him your boldest requests.

He is not distant. He is not indifferent.

He is a Father who listens.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I have doubted Your willingness to hear me. Strengthen my faith to approach You boldly, knowing that I am Your child. Teach me to trust not only in Your power, but in Your love. If You are attentive even to the requests of demons, how much more can I rest in Your care for me? I bring You everything today—confident that You hear, and that You will answer according to Your perfect will. Amen.
